MAHALAS

2023

“Mahalas” is a 6’x4’ multimedia installation; a safe space in the form of a garden. Plants and audiovisual systems in the soil form a symbiotic relationship between nature and technology, where computer programs manipulate plant information. Through the interaction of nature and technology, this piece explores alternative forms of communication.

Decoding plant characteristics, the artist creates sounds and visuals as vocabulary for a new language, and becomes the translator of plants. ”Mahalas” creates a sanctuary for the artist’s younger self,  shared with the audience, where communication is sensorial, not language-based.
